Self Sketch..Version I and II

Sketching faces is my favorite when it comes to the topic of sketching as there is an unparalleled joy in getting the face right. I have sketched a lot of faces over the years, but only one or two feeble attempts at self sketch. I haven't really succeeded in self sketch before this. I have a strong suspicion that self sketch is more difficult, maybe because we often correct 'that loud nose' etc and put the picture in our mind on paper which often is far removed from what we look like! I tried with a few photos of myself but this one was what I managed to get correctly, maybe it matched my view of myself! My family agreed it looks like me and so did my friend Priya.

I have a problem, I sometimes overwork and so I uploaded the first basic sketch in Tagged Artlover Group (which had required self sketch from members) and then worked on it again after another look at the original picture....Oh I don't have that tamed hair! Its more of an unruly self willed bunch which has its moods every day (and I have to go with it and set myself accordingly). The "right" picture is my hair in one of its airy moods.

Honestly I see real talent in you. Perhaps, I can give you some tips on sketching...try observing more on shadows than lines or shapes. Focus more on what's coming out of your pencil...look at the tip. Imagine the texture of the object you are copying.
And you are right, you must know when to stop. If you feel you are over-doing it. Make some pause.

yes, Fher, artist should be boldest in her/his periphery..., brave attempts are needed...! I like your suggestion to be brave, rather than working on tips...! All great artists finally try to forget or go off the learning they had been acquainted with... only to create something especial. But only it can be done when you've crossed your genre...

Thanks again both. I need to get this sort of suggestions as I missed out on learning the mediums and it would be wonderful to draw from your knowledge and experience....

Among artworks and even from photo images, I like portraiture best.

The face has many stories and no matter which medium one uses, whether it be pencil, chalk, pastel, oil or water---beauty is evidently shown. But what I like best is if the artist could portray the model well..or at least one can recognize who that person is in the artwork.

Fher has indeed given tips to express your sketch appropriately.

I could say for these two attempts you did well. It is you :)

Complimenti :)

The second is spiritual.

I have to believe, you were supposed to know these things or I would never have found your blog in the millions of blogs:)

I also am an artist, certain faces are so hard to capture, I find that when the spirit is beautiful, it is even harder to capture the essence of of someone who shines the light of God! Can God be captured by pencil and paper?

aloha nui aikane,
wind

WIND; You are right! I do think I am supposed to wake up to what u have mentioned. U are the second person who has alerted me about Chem trials. At first info from my blogger friend Fher, it was one of many news of concern. But now it is THE NEWS. I am grateful that u made me more concerned. NOW I have to sit up on this topic because of this second wake up call.

About Urantia It is something new to me. I will have to visit the site a few times.

I couldnt find much about u! Thanks fo finding me and hope u will visit again so I can know more about u

I have been reading Urantia and checking about it in the net. My book is about clearing personal doubts and logically arriving at faith http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009BATQUA . The Urantia book is the next step to faith! It is challenging and stretching my mind to a new vision! Thank u for introducing me to this. I wonder how this book remained so well hidden from my sight this long!Maybe because one simply cant read the Urantia book without full faith! Hope u will communicate to me if u ever visit my blog again!
